Our turn of the century S-bend straight front corset has all the curve and drama of the Gibson Girl era, when fashions emphasized large, round hips with narrow waists and low, wide bosoms.

Cut at a lower mid-bust height, these corsets nip in the waist and exaggerate the hips, creating the iconic "S-bend" shape. To help you achieve this silhouette without extreme tightlacing, we have patterned these corsets with an extra 23" in the hip when compared with our other styles. We include optional hip pads which can be tacked or pinned into the hip of the corset to fill out the side back and create the illusion of a smaller waist.

Details:

  • Appropriate for 1900–1907
  • Cotton sateen fashion fabric outer layer
  • English cotton coutil and twill strength/lining layers
  • Front-opening steel busk
  • Steel boning throughout
  • Plus sizes (18–26) feature additional boning for added support, as well as an additional front seam to provide more shaping
  • Center back lacing with two-piece nickel grommets

Our stays and corsets are based closely on historical pattern shapes and extant examples, but utilize theatrical construction techniques and modern materials to bring you an accurate silhouette in a sturdy, comfortable garment. You can read more about the research and inspiration for this corset on our blog.
