Feature Friday: Decades of Style Patterns

With cozy season in full swing, many of us are planning our winter wardrobe projects, and this month’s featured business will certain spark some inspiration! For over 15 years, Decades of Style has been providing high-quality reproduction sewing patterns, perfect for your vintage or modern closet.

The company was founded in 2005 with the goal to make patterns from the 1920s through the 1950s widely available to home sewists in a broad range of sizes. Their line features everything from aprons to evening gowns, all of which have some unique or interesting detailing. Beginners will find easy projects to help them level-up their skills, while more experienced stitchers can discover their next challenging make.

On the simpler end of the spectrum, their 1950s Protect and Serve Apron would make an adorable quick gift for your favorite baker. (Or for yourself!)

For a more ambitious project, try their 1940s Empire Waist Trousers. Made up in lovely, soft wool, they would be a warm and practical winter staple.

And the finished trousers would look adorable paired with either the 1940s Girl Friday Blouse or the 1950s Collar Confection Blouse!

Finally for something completely glamourous, you can’t get more elegant than the 1930s Leading Lady Gown. It features curved side panels and a plunging back neckline for that quintessential Hollywood starlet look.

While most of their patterns are true vintage reproductions, they also have a microline called Decades Everyday. These styles are simpler and are designed to be quick makes for busy sewists and beginners alike.

Their TLC Caftan is a popular choice and it’s easy to see why. Comfy and flattering, it’s perfect if you want to look nice but aren’t feeling pants after spending most of the past two years in your sweats.

Or their Ophelia Overalls would make a great project to transition back into "real" clothes, more like secret pajamas than anything else.

All of the patterns are available in a 30” bust to a 46” bust, and their newer patterns extend up to a 52” bust. Most of the patterns come with the complete size range in one package, and you can choose from either a professionally printed paper pattern or instant download digital PDF on their site.
