Feature Friday: New Vintage Lady

It’s time for another Feature Friday! This month the spotlight is on New Vintage Lady and her fantastic line of plus-sized sewing patterns.

Inspired by her love of wearing and sewing vintage clothing but frustrated by the lack patterns in her size, Shelly started New Vintage Lady in 2007 with the aim of creating period correct vintage patterns for lager sizes.

The line is exclusively plus-sized (the size chart ranges from 40 to 60 inch bust) and the patterns are sold in multi-size ranges of three sizes. The shop features both PDF Patterns and physical paper patterns, so you don’t have to worry about printing at home if that isn’t your thing.

With designs from the 1910s to the 1940s, her shop has patterns perfect for both historic costumes and vintage-inspired wear. The Gibson 1910 Walking Ensemble would be excellent for a WWI impression, while the Danielle 1940s Day Dress would make an adorable everyday dress. (If we ever leave the house again, that is.)

If you are looking for something a little more sporty, the Deirdra 1940s Slacks and Jacket would be a great choice. Perfect for when you want to be stylish and practical!

There is even a pattern for an adorable 1940s bra and tap shorts set, so you can sew your vintage look from the skin out.

Shelly also has a great series of YouTube videos giving helpful fitting tips and showing various construction details for her patterns. In the video below she walks us through her charming 1910s Gibson Ensemble:

Shelly is an animator by trade, and New Vintage Lady’s pattern illustrations are full of life and charm! Not only do her pattern covers show off her skill as an illustrator, but Shelly also has a vintage comic series for sale in her Etsy shop. “Vintageville” follows Norma Vie Ladie as she and her friends navigate life and relationships with vintage style.
