A Regency Revamp for 2019
Redthreaded turns ten years old in January. That's...wild. We've come a long way from my college apartment.
My patterning has come a long way too. Regency stays were one of the first styles I standardized into sizes. I believe it has been six years since we've made any substantial changes to the master patterns. In that time, I have had the opportunity to fit this style on hundreds of women, and assess the overall fit.
To that end, we're making a few little tweaks to the patterns for our stock Regency short stays and long stays for 2019. Some of these changes are to improve fit, and some are for ease of assembly and future alteration.
A note: we will not be updating our retail Regency patterns, at least right now. That is a *big* job, and many of these changes are adjustments that can be made when fitting one's own mockup. Since making your own stays allows you to fine tune the fit, these changes are less important for the patterns than for stays that need to fit as many people as possible right "out of the box."
Here's what we are changing:
Short Stays
- Lower top edge of bust and underarm by 1/4"-3/8" depending on size
- Widen/deepen bust gussets, to create a slightly rounder shape
- Make shoulder straps separate pieces so that they are ALTERABLE!
- Add alterable side seam
Long Stays - Sizes XS-XXL
- Lower top edge of bust and underarm by 1/4"-3/8" depending on size
- Widen/deepen bust gussets, to create a slightly rounder shape
- Make shoulder straps separate pieces so that they are ALTERABLE!
- Take in side front hip gusset a bit
- Redistribute more hip fullness towards the back
- Finesse overall shaping and seam lines
Long Stays - Plus Sizes
(we had less to do here, since our plus size patterns were developed more recently and already had alterable straps)
- Widen/deepen bust gussets, to create a slightly rounder shape
- Take in side front hip gusset a bit
- Redistribute more hip fullness towards the back
- Finesse overall shaping and seam lines
There are small changes, but the little details are what makes a better product. All of our old style short and long Regency stays are now on clearance to make way for the new updated stock.
