This historical reproduction corset style is based on corsets from the 1870's and features hip and bust gores. It is curvier than our standard Victorian corset patterns, with 2" more room in the bust and the hips. Nips in the waist, smooths the hips and torso, and supports a rounded bust without creating a dramatic lifted push-up effect. This corset will provide a moderate reduction (2-5") but is not intended for waist training. Black sateen fashion fabric, English cotton coutil strength layer, waist tape, and CF busk. Laces CB with two piece nickel grommets and black cotton cord.
These corsets are boned in synthetic whalebone, a product which has been shown to have properties most similar to the baleen used in extant corsets from this period. Synthetic whalebone is remarkable because it is light, flexible but strong, and comes in a narrow width, allowing us to replicate the rows of boning seen on historical corsets. It also molds to the body in the same way as whalebone once did, allowing the corset to take on and hold dramatic curves that are all but impossible with steel boning. This is the ultimate in historical reproduction luxury.
The sample corset features extensive hand stitched flossing in yellow thread. Flossing is decorative as well as functional--it holds the bones in place within their channels.
