The end of the 18th century saw major shifts in western women's fashion. After centuries of conical silhouettes, the body was allowed to curve and waistlines rose to just under the bust. Transitional stays were the "missing link" between earlier styles and the later long line stays, and with a lightly boned conical torso and soft bust gores, our 1790s stays pattern makes the perfect foundation for fashions of the early Regency period.

Pattern features:

  • Appropriate for 1790–1810
  • Center front busk
  • Bust gores
  • Back lacing
  • Adjustable shoulder straps

A booklet is included with written and photographic step-by-step instructions. We also provide a resource sheet with US and UK based corsetry supplier recommendations and general research sources. You can get all the specialty supplies you need to recreate your stays by purchasing our corresponding kit.

This pattern is recommended for those with intermediate to advanced sewing skills. Corsets are not generally beginner projects.

Our patterns are individually sized, so be sure to select the appropriate size when ordering. If you are between sizes, we recommend you size down. Please contact us if you have any questions.

How to Pick Your Size

To help you achieve the best fit, we have created a step-by-step tutorial on how to shorten or lengthen your corset pattern.

Our stay and corset patterns are based closely on historical shapes and extant examples, but utilize modern construction techniques and materials to bring you an accurate silhouette in a sturdy, comfortable garment. You can read more about the research and inspiration for this style on our blog.

Please see our Policies page for important information regarding payments, shipping, returns, and customs. International buyers are responsible for all VAT/customs fees. Under no circumstances will a shipment be marked as a "gift" or declared at a reduced value.
