As fashions evolved through the late 1820s through the early 1840s, so did the necessary foundation garments. Stays of the period generally retained the same shapes and seaming as earlier styles, but they shifted towards a curvier, hourglass silhouette. While this style has similar pieces when compared with our Regency long stays pattern, our 1830s stays have a less extreme push-up bustline, a lower hip line, and a higher, more defined waist.

Pattern features:

  • Appropriate for 1820s–1840s
  • Designed for a center front busk
  • Bust gussets and hip gores
  • Back lacing
  • Adjustable shoulder straps

A booklet is included with written and photographic step-by-step instructions. We also provide a resource sheet with US and UK based corsetry supplier recommendations and general research sources. You can get all the specialty supplies you need to recreate your stays by purchasing our corresponding kit.

This pattern is recommended for those with intermediate to advanced sewing skills. Corsets are not generally beginner projects.

Our patterns are individually sized, so be sure to select the appropriate size when ordering. If you are between sizes, we recommend you size down. Please contact us if you have any questions.

How to Pick Your Size

To help you achieve the best fit, we have created a step-by-step tutorial on how to shorten or lengthen your corset pattern.

Our stay and corset patterns are based closely on historical shapes and extant examples, but utilize modern construction techniques and materials to bring you an accurate silhouette in a sturdy, comfortable garment. You can read more about the research and inspiration for this style on our blog.

Please see our Policies page for important information regarding payments, shipping, returns, and customs. International buyers are responsible for all VAT/customs fees. Under no circumstances will a shipment be marked as a "gift" or declared at a reduced value.
